So would the trail be well staked by race day. Because I'm from the Interior, and don't know the coast very well.

At 8:32 PM, Blogger Laban Jr. said...

trail will be well staked by race day any questions call pat johanson @ morgans 443-2155 during the day

At 9:30 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

FYI, there's about 125 less rooms to rent this year , so housing is going to be tight. Make your reservations early! We anticipate roughly 80 to 100 entrants in this years race, all classes (last year was 76 total).

At 2:32 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

We got dumped with more snow then I have seen in the last few years. 10 inches the other day, about 8 inches yesterday and MORE today. Good for the trail!

At 5:27 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Does anyone have a listing of who has registered for this year's Nome-Golovin race?

At 2:55 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Ummmmm yeah...I'd have to say it is a tad bit too early for that info. Racers USUALLY register the day before the race.

At 8:21 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Anyone been on the trail?
What's the latest after all the snow and blizzards??

At 10:22 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

C'mon bloggers... How's the trail??
Rough...Smooth... WFO??

At 1:39 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

So... where are the women racing too? Safety... is way too short.

Trail update:

NVFD volunteers went out today to touch up trail from Nome to topcock shelter cabin with 100, 4' tri-pod markers its about 90% complete. Topcock to white mountain is well staked and a very good trail. White Mt. to Golovin is staked but some changes will be made as the race nears. Trail conditions for riding are good, lots of snow.

Women race traditionaly to safety and back.

At 11:55 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Thanks for the trail update. And thanks again to all the volunteers who make this race possible.

At 8:34 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Please post the dates on your snow trail updates. Any updates are appreciated.

Nome-Golovin Race Meeting

Friday Feb. 16th 6:00 pm @ VFW Hall

At 10:32 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

hey Bloggers.........anyupdates

At 4:02 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I think it would be cool to put in pictures of the trail somewhere on this site. Different locations like a cool place would be were there are a bunch of crashes take place and maybe the road where the drivers get the best top speed.....top kok, white mountain and golavin, etc. So that people from all over the state can have an idea what this race looks like It would be good for racers and the spectators......

At 4:48 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hey guys, hows the trail doing? HOPE ITS ROUGH!

At 11:21 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Its hard to tell from this blog when posts were made, so please, for everyones information, make a point to post the DATE when you make a comment..

Today is Feb 23.

The trail is rough and hard. Decent from town to Safety, rougher from there to Bonanza Bridge (32 mile). From the bridge to Topkok hill, very hard, low snow, sand, driftwood, etc. Very poor! Snow cover on the back of Topkok, hardpack and marginal all the way to Timber with tundra showing in spots. Timber flats to the Fish River, rough and moguled but snow covered. The river itself is rough, very poor in front of White Mountain due to the warm weather we had in January. Ice chunks showing everywhere. On out to Golovin Bay, LARGE ice chunks from the high water/warm weather.

The Irondoggers did not complain about the trail from Golovin to Nome, so it should not be a problem overall for you guys racing. It just won't be WFO and seriously doubt the race record time is in jeopard this year.

Sorry to report, as I enjoy it immensely, but I will not be doing radio commentary on KNOM this year. I will be in Barrow watching high school basketball at the regional tournament....my son is a senior this year; priorities. You guys have fun, be safe!! I be thinking of you all..

i would like to say thank you laben iyatungak for nine wonderful years of being the race marshell, with all the good interpatations of the rules which he alway covered ,we missed you out there, i hope pat steps down just because we dont need a snowmobile dealer representive being involved thanks

At 12:32 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I would also like to thank Laban Iyatunguk for all that he has done for the Nome Racing Association over the years. LABAN brought the Nome Racing back to life over the past 9 years and we will always be greatful to him for what he has done. And for all you volunteers, KEEP UP THE AWESOME JOB! Can't wait for next year already.

At 1:55 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I read the posting bad-mouthing Pat Johansen and my jaw dropped. Until I noticed what time it was posted at...3:12am! Typical drunk talk:) Pat and everyone else that volunteers their time for the Nome-Golovin race should only be given praise for their efforts.

At 8:54 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

About the posting @ 3:14 am... I think that what the drunk meant to say about Pat J. is that he works hard enough as it is being the local dealer and should not have to be involved and put extra time and energy into the race efforts. ...

Great job Pat! - Morgan's - trail stakers - EMT's - Steak night crew - Cover Pilots - Crowley - ATS - White Mt. and Golovin volunteers.

At 10:12 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

great job pat and everyone that make it happen on the nome golovin snow-go races every year. thanks

At 9:16 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Putting on the Nome Golovin race takes an incredible amount of time out of the volunteers who dearly love it. Thats the only reason it continues to be the race it is; volunteerism.

Now, those of you who bash someone who works their ass off each and every year and gets nothing for his efforts, consider stepping up to the plate and doing something to help out next year.

If it were not for Pat Johansen and the uncountable amount of hours he puts forth to see it go off as well as it doed, the Nome-Golovin race would not be a fraction of what it has been the past several years.

'Nuff said. Get involved!!

Nate Perkins

And a BIG THANKS to EVERYONE who helps with this event.

At 9:27 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hands down to Laban for nine awesome years! Nome-Golovin is surely one of the most biggest races. Gonna miss ya for races to come. THANKS

At 3:45 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I will miss him...like the plague!

At 10:58 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

he'll be back next year.

At 8:25 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

IF YOUR IMPORTANT, PEOPLE WILL WAIT FOR YOU.

At 10:22 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Your right on the "IF" part of the statement. Maybe you should have used "when" your important.....??

At 1:23 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

considering the alternatives, i think the situation calls for a great phrase that should be on my truck. however its only mind over matter that consists merely in the one reading of reality at its finest. thank you and wank me.

At 2:03 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

This race is great! Pat does a wonderful job and his attitude is always so workable and repectful towards others. Laben's attitude is so miserable and has an attitude of "It's my way or NO way".
Come on, if you don't want to be there then quit making it miserable for everyone else.

At 10:57 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

No 2007 nome Golovin Pictures??????

At 7:44 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I can only think of one person who would leave a comnent about Pat, I will not mention any names. But sit back and wonder who has been running the Cannon ball race for the last couple of years. Then ask why there is no race this year. And if you still don't know they have moved there shop to 6th avenue.

At 1:04 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

What's up for the 2008 N-G?
